The Andros holiday resort of Batsi is located on the west side of the island, surrounded by a very picturesque bay area and backed by hills of olives and cypress.
Batsi is the main holiday beach resort of Andros and has a south-facing sandy beach, set in a sheltered bay with a pretty harbour and tavernas and bars along the shore.
The main road curves around the bay behind the beach lined with hotels, apartments, tavernas and shops with a large central car park on a piece of wasteland.
The buildings behind the eastern end of Batsi beach have a first-floor gallery filled with taverna tables that overlook the main beach.
The water is shallow and safe for children, so Batsi beach is a favoured spot for families. There is shade at the western end where tamarisks run between the beach and the main road.
Batsi beach is also very sandy, and it split by a small freshwater stream that runs from a gulley beneath the road. It widens near the harbour and it's here that sunbeds are laid out along the shore.
Its popularity as the best beach resort on Andros has led to considerable development on hills around the bay. Tiers of new apartment blocks now spill down what was once an attractive hillside.
As well as the main Batsi beach there are several small coves within easy walking distance, most notably at Stivari, Agia Marina and at Agios Kyprianos.
