Kardamena is located to the south of the island airport of Kos and it is one of the most popular holiday resorts on the island, especially for young people.
Kardamena's young and 'lively' clientele has resulted in a brash, commercialised sprawl of English-style pubs, karaoke-night bars, and chips-with-everything tavernas.
Most activity centres around the main square which is full of shops, cafes and tavernas with a couple of large supermarkets to cater for self-catering visitors.
Tavernas are everywhere, with menus boasting everything from all-day English breakfast to Indian take-aways. Traditional Greek taverna food will be a pretty hard find.
Kardamena boasts plenty of party nightlife and, although it's not exactly Ayia Napa, there's plenty on offer with clubs open until 4 am weekdays and 6 am at weekends.
Kardamena has a long sandy beach stretching to nearly three kilometres. The long beach is packed with sunbeds and there are myriad watersports on offer while shady bars and cantinas line the back of the beach.
There is a small marina with boat hire and boat excursions advertised and a regular bus service to Kos Town which is about 30 kilometres away.
There are also dozens of day trip tours of local sights including the sandy beach strip at Kamari Bay which lies just to the west.
