Nidri, sometimes spelt Nydri, is the main holiday resort of Lefkas and is located about 17 kilometres south of Lefkas Town.
Nidri has a large selection of restaurants and bars with traditional Greek tavernas among the pizza parlours and international restaurants. Bars are plentiful and a couple of nightclubs open in the high season.
There are mini-markets that open throughout the summer, banks and a health centre. The main road that runs through the middle of the resort is notoriously busy.
Although surrounded by hills, the Nidri area is mainly flat so it's a popular resort for walkers and cyclists. Local attractions include waterfalls, about four kilometres from the village, and roads around Vlicho Bay to the church of Agia Kiriaki on the Geni headland.
Nidri beaches are pleasant enough with gently shelving banks of shingle and sand, lots of sunbeds and a variety of watersports, although the sands can get very busy. Visitors report the water is not always very clean close to the harbour.
Well sheltered in the almost enclosed bay, Nidri is a big yachting centre and holds the annual Ionian Regatta, one of the biggest yachting events in the Med in September.
Nidri has a small ferry port with ferries to Kefalonia, Ithaca and Meganissi. There is a good local bus service with regular buses to and from Lefkas Town.
