Plomari Lesvos Map And Beach Guide

Plomari is the only sizeable coastal settlement on the south coast of Lesvos and it's the second largest town after Mytilene and about 42 kilometres away to the north.

Plomari is not only a very scenic spot it 's also the site of the island's ouzo industry which is reputed to be the best ouzo in Greece.

The town is also noted for its old mansion houses with projecting upper floors and small balconies as well as Turkish-style houses and a number of Turkish fountains.

There are several interesting churches including Agios Nikolaos, near the market, with some fine icons, and Agia Paraskevis which has an iconostasis of white marble.

The cultural centre of Plomari is a former soap factory, now fully restored and a focus on cultural activities, conferences, permanent and periodic exhibitions.

The summer resort of Agios Isidoros is two kilometres east, once voted one of the best beaches in Greece, while picturesque Amoudelli is to the west.

Also west of Plomari is the beach at Melinda, a 700-metre sand-and-shingle strip at the mouth of a ravine.

There are several local brands of ouzo with Varvayianni the most famous and the Plomari festival season kicks off in mid-July with an ouzo festival and ends with some horse racing.
