The Mykonos beach of Elia is one of the largest the most popular among a string of crowded 'party' beaches that run along the south coast of Mykonos.
Backed by steep cliffs and overlooked by a large hotel complex Elia has very soft sand covered, for the most part, in brightly coloured sunbeds and there are changing rooms and showers.
This party beach is a big favourite of the gay crowd and visitors can expect to find plenty of nudity along the shoreline, although this is mainly confined to the western end of the sands.
Elia beach is located about 10 kilometres south of Mykonos Town and, although it is a popular and busy beach, it avoids the beach party exuberance that defines other party beaches such as Paradise and Super Paradise.
Elia is nevertheless still a busy beach and visitors will be hard put to find a quiet spot. There is a large hotel directly above the beach and several more sitting on the hillside to the east.
The busy crowd means there are plenty of places to eat and drink. Elia has several small shops and a mini-market set behind the beach.
Lots of watersports are also on offer here with the usual jet skis, banana rides, parasailing and so on.
There is a regular bus service and Elia is one of the ports of call for the daily caiques that set out from Platys Yialos and Ornos and hop along the south coast Mykonos beaches.
