Ornos is one of the busiest beaches on Mykonos and lies only two kilometres from Mykonos Town with a daily bus service as well as frequent water taxis.
The well-sheltered beach sits on the southern shore of a narrow neck of land. It is long, deep and sandy with a gentle fall into the sea, so it's very popular with families.
The beach must once have been a quite spectacularly beautiful spot but hotel development has swamped both the beach area and inland in recent years and robbed it of any real charm.
The whole area is one self-contained tourist village with hotels, apartments and shops to meet the tourist demand. As well as cafes and tavernas there are mini markets, a butcher, baker and pharmacy.
Ornos beach has plenty of tourist facilities with sun loungers, showers and toilets as well as beach bars and tavernas. There is the usual array of watersports and a scuba diving centre.
Car parking is not great in Ornos village with just a small car park in the main square and another car park at the beach and demand is high given the short distance from Mykonos Town.
There are daily boat excursions to Delos from the harbour which provides some of the best anchorage on Mykonos and always seems full of luxury yachts.
Boat trips leave not only for Delos but also for many other beaches on Mykonos such as Psarou, Elia, Agrari and Paradise.
