The beach resort at Kolios is located on the south coast road of Skiathos about 9 kilometres from Skiathos Town on the coastal road that runs the length of the island.
The south-west facing beach at Kolios is set in a deep sheltered bay between beach resorts of Vromolimnos and Platanias and has a good sized beach of sharp sand with headlands coated with pine trees on either side.
The beach slopes gently into the sea so these are safe sands for families with young children and visitors have a choice of tavernas as well as sunbeds and watersports.
Beach facilities are concentrated at the eastern end of Kolios so the other end of the beach tends to be much less crowded and there are pleasant walks to be found on paths and tracks that lead over the headland to woods and other small beaches.
The resort is just off the main road and the bus stops 13, 14 and 15 all have paths that lead down to Kolios beach with stop 15 being the nearest.
Round-island excursion boats also call in here so the beach can sometimes get besieged by crowds although they rarely stop for long, using the tavernas as a meal stop.
There is plenty of accommodation in the area and several tavernas and mini markets nearby for those staying around Koleos.
Small secluded coves can be found both sides of the main Kolios beach and they are easily reached on foot along the coastal paths.
