Considered by some to be one of the most picturesque beaches on Thassos, the white sand bay at Makryammos beach, about two kilometres east of Limenas, is dominated by a holiday camp complex.
The approach through the bungalow complex has 'Private' signs but the beach is public and the signs can be safely ignored.
The alternative approach is by boat with daily sailings from the harbour at Limenas but the sea route is much longer than the walk ii you want to get to the beach a little earlier.
Makryammos beach is set in a pine-sheltered bay and it's crammed with sunbeds and has all the usual facilities you might expect on an organised family holiday beach.
There is a self-service cafe behind the beach that serves ketchup, coke and chips and it holds organised barbecue nights for those saying in bungalows. It's a bit like a Greek Butlins.
Makryammos has fine white sand set in a lovely bay and the dense forest surroundings mean the bungalows go unnoticed, although their proximity does mean that Makryammos beach is almost permanently crowded and visitors must arrive early to bad a decent spot.
The sea is sheltered and shallow so Makryammos is a good family beach but, on the negative side are the mounds of rotting seaweed and pine needles that tend to collect in Makryammos bay and they do attract wasps and flies.
