Agios Nikolaos (South) is a beach resort in the Vassilikos area on the east coast of Zante that has become hugely popular and considered one of the top watersports beaches on the island.
This Agios Nikolaos should not be confused with the port of the same name in the north of the island. This Agios Nikolaos takes its name from the tiny, white chapel that crowns the headland above the beautiful, small bay.
Not a very large resort Agios Nikolaos is just a scattering of small hotels.and apartments, several tavernas and two mini-markets with a single access road that ends at a small car park.
Being small, the beach is awash with sunbeds and it can get very crowded in high summer. Most visitors are drawn by the huge range of watersports on offer – from pedaloes to scuba diving.
The sand at Agios Nikolaos beach is soft, golden and it banks gently into the sea so this is a fine beach for families with young children. It is also usually kept very clean.
The countryside around Agios Nikolaos is starkly bare until you get a little further inland where there are plenty of walking trails through the surrounding pine forest and citrus groves.
There is a free high season bus service that runs to the nearby beach resort of Argassi and also onto Laganas. It is run in order to ferry visitors into Agios Nikolaos, but you can always hop aboard to get to the other resorts.
